Altau Gold is focused on discovering the next generation of gold and copper mines in Ethiopia. We are a team of experienced industry professionals with a track record of discovery, development, financing and sale of mining projects across Africa. Altau is a wholly owned subsidiary of Asterion AV, part of the Altus Strategies group of companies.

Altau established operations in Ethiopia during 2010 following a period of data collection and target selection. The Company has assembled a GIS database on the country, comprising a range of geological and geographical datasets as well as significant geochemical exploration data compiled by various agencies. The Company has also engaged a remote sensing specialist to undertake a Landsat 5 ETM and ASTER interpretation programme covering 90,000km2 of Ethiopia's most geologically prospective regions and primarily the underexplored lithologies of the Arabian Nubian Shield, which outcrops in over 20% of Ethiopia's land surface.

Altau initiated exploration in October 2010, and during 2011 the Company implemented its exploration strategy and strengthened its technical presence in Ethiopia. This revised exploration strategy of the exploration licences included detailed target delineation by comprehensive regional BLEG sampling and where warranted, soil grids, trenching, channel sampling and ground geophysics to help establish set of reconnaissance drill targets.

Altau has now been granted two licences in Ethiopia, the Afar-Tigray licence in Tigray province and the Wombere licence within the Benishangul-Gumuz National Regional State. Both the Afar-Tigray and Wombere licences target the prospective Proterozoic volcanic and volcaniclastic terranes which form part of the Arabian Nubian Shield. These rocks host a number of substantial deposits in the region, including the Bisha (1.6Moz Au at 1.8g/t) and Asmara copper/gold deposits (1.05Moz Au, 31.8Moz Ag, 2.5Bn Lb Zn & 1.28Bn Lb Cu) in Eritrea approximately 250km north of the Afar-Tigray licence as well as the Sukari gold deposit (14.5Moz Au) in Egypt and the Jabal Sayid copper project (1.2Bn Lb Cu) in Saudi Arabia.

Afar-Tigray Exploration Licence (1,000km2)
Afar-Tigray is located in the Tigray province of northern Ethiopia, approximately 580km north of the capital, Addis Ababa. It is approximately 45km north of the regional centre of Mekele and 35km south of the Eritrean border. Mekele has a population of 65,000 and strong communication links, being served by a main road to Addis Ababa and Asmara in Eritrea. Daily flights operate to the capital from Mekele.

Wombere Exploration Licence (917km2)
Wombere is located in Gimbi woreda within the Benishangul-Gumuz Regional State in western Ethiopia, approximately 350km northeast of the capital, Addis Ababa. It is approximately 55km east of the Sudanese border and 160km north of the town of Gimbi. The Wombere licence is situated within a region of elevated topography, typically above 2,500m. The regional town of Gimbi (population 35,000) has strong communication links, being served by a main road to Addis Ababa, and a network of tarred and laterite roads.
